Calibrant’s Gemini™ technology is uniquely compatible with limited protein samples procured from clinically relevant microdissected tissues. The proven platform is distinguished by its ability to provide comprehensive protein discovery from isolated and homogeneous populations of diseased cells and is the leading solution for proteomic analysis of microdissected fresh-frozen and formalin-fixed tissues.

Following isolation of the diseased cells by LCM or related method, processed samples are separated using the proprietary Gemini™ platform, combining high-resolution electrokinetic focusing of peptides and nano-scale reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The capillary-based system features automated and lossless interfacing between the two orthogonal separation dimensions. Final separation and detection is performed by mass spectrometry, enabling accurate mass determination and fragmentation of isolated peptides to determine sequence and post-translational modification sites.

Unlike standard discovery technologies, Gemini™ is compatible with the entire protein complement of a cell -- peptides to megaDalton proteins, proteins with extreme isoelectric points, membrane proteins, and post-translationally modified proteins. The platform is compatible with samples from fresh or fixed tissues, enabling rapid and comprehensive analysis of proteins from isolated cell populations.
